Super Creepy Snow Globes are Filled With Death, Not Cheer
Posted by Sean Fallon at 7:50 AM on June 21, 2008
When I think of snow globes, images of pleasant Christmas settings usually come to mind. Even now, on a hot summer's day, the thought is kind of refreshing. However, it seems that artists Walter Martin and Paloma Munoz must have had a traumatic incident involving snow globes, because the imagery they have created in their Travelers series is just a tad on the disturbing side. Hit the following gallery to see what I mean. If you want go a step further and actually purchase one, they can be had for US$750 apiece. [Project Page via Inventor's Spot via DVICE]

@smuckersisgood: Do a google image search for Fargo snow globe. Back when the dvd came out, they had some special editions that came with a snow globe. One was the wood chipper scene. The one I bought was the scene on the side of the road at the beginning of the movie. They did not cost $700.

$750 per globe just makes them that much more disturbing. It's all part of the experience.

I'm usually not a fan of morbid art, but these are just fantastic. Excellent twist on an age old classic. I like it.

Saw these photographers' work in Aperture years ago. I wonder if the globes have been on sale since they made that project... For anybody claiming $750 is absurd, remember that these are from pretty well recognized photographers and are meant to be regarded as fine art pieces and not a novelty. $750 is reasonable to spend on a painting, so why not a snow globe?

A Special Edition ?(or screener version) of 'Fargo' came with a snow globe that depicted the wood chipper scene, so this isn't exactly novel.
Calvin & Hobbes Snow Globes would be brilliant.

Haha, these are pretty awesome. What they really need, though, is a globe with a nuke going off in the middle and have the snow be either debris, blood, or fallout from the blast... yeah... >_>
